History
The study of history allows us to form connections between the past and the present, enabling us to understand where we fit in the narrative of time. At Bushmead, we believe that all children should be given the opportunity to explore this, where they can immerse themselves into the world of the past, allowing them to appreciate their role by considering how actions and decisions can affect the future.
History at Bushmead Primary School is taught by following the outcomes and topics outlined in the National Curriculum, where children are given the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of Britain’s history, as well as the history of the wider world. This has been carefully constructed at our school so that, by the end of their journey at primary school, students will have gained a chronological understanding of key time periods, while simultaneously developing some of the vital skills required for a young historian.
We endeavour to make the teaching and learning of History engaging and accessible to all children by working towards a clear outcome and by creating cross-curricular links. Children are encouraged to ask questions, draw comparisons and arrive at well-thought out conclusions.
During their time at school, children will gain an understanding of the history of Britain, including significant events such as the Great Fire of London in Key Stage 1. They study the settlements and the lives of those who have shaped Britain, considering their influences and impact.They will also learn about the history of the wider world, including a study of the ancient civilisations such as the Ancient Egyptians and Ancient Greeks.
