Summer Term 2020 Update:
The Reading Champion challenge will continue to run during the Summer term, despite pupils being on Lockdown.
We understand that for many of the pupils obtaining paper copies of the texts on the list will be difficult. Therefore any pupils who wish to still complete the challenge can do so with the aid of audiobooks.
Many books are available free through Audible books (www.amazon.co.uk) or can be found in picture/video form on YouTube.
Books are also available online from your local library.
The deadline to complete this challenge is the end of the Summer Term. Badges will be awarded dependent on when pupils return to school.
Parents will need to email firstname.lastname@example.org to inform the school their child has completed the challenge, including your child's name, Year group and class.
Year 5/6 children only need to complete 15/20 books.
At Bushmead we think reading is very important. To complement our current reading schemes in both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 (Accelerated Reader), we are introducing ‘Reading Champions’.
This is a recommended book list not an exclusive book list and your child is encouraged to make their own book choices but also consider books from the list. These books can be read independently or become a shared read with an adult. It is not a competition to see how quickly they complete the list as they have all year to do so.
If your child completes all the books from their Year Group Reading Champions list, they will be awarded a Reading Champion Badge for that year.
