This month's value is Respect

Our well-being theme this half-term is Learn Something New

 17th November 2023

Dear parents & carers,

We have had a phenomenally busy and successful week at school. World Kindness Day, Odd Socks Day, Anti-Bullying Week, Maths Day, Children in Need and Governors' Day! We have celebrated Diwali. As well as our normal curriculum.

First, thank you for your immense generosity in support of our Fun Run for Children in Need. Our overall total with contributions via ParentMail and in cash is £10,526.88. We are simply stunned!  Thank you to everyone who took part in any way.  A huge thank you to Mrs Gray for suggesting and organising the event for our children and to Mrs Boag for being our media representative and elevating our wonderful school and community.  Lots of photos to follow!

Another improvement in our attendance on our way to our 97% target:

The best attendance last week was 99.2% for 6 Curie and the whole school total increased to 96.3%.

Late pick-up still needs to be improved, please. We understand that occasionally things go wrong that will lead to a delay in collecting your child. Do call the school office as soon as you realise this may happen.  If children are collected late after school or after a school club, they will go to Twilight Club and you may be charged for this service.  Please communicate with us if there is a difficulty.

As of Monday 20th November, the Old Bedford Road gate will be closed until further notice. We have taken advice from our Health & Safety team, as the path has continued to deteriorate, and it is now unsafe.  We appreciate that this will cause greater pressure on our other two gates.  Our advice is to walk or car share where you can. Park further away and walk, leave slightly earlier. There will be more congestion, so please be patient.  The work to repair/rebuild the path, if we choose to re-open it, will take some time.  The need to close the path is greater than the safety implications of only having two gates open. I am sorry for any inconvenience this causes.

Thank you to our Governors' for spending the day at school. We had excellent discussions regarding school developments. Thank you to Ms Clark, Mrs Blackley and Mrs Shaw for their contributions to the day. Our Governors also visited classrooms and spent time in the playground and at lunch talking with the children. It is great for them to see the school in action and the realities of everyday school life!  Governors are volunteers, so we especially thank you for your time, service and advice.

World Kindness Day was a way of placing a spotlight on our lovely children, caring staff and community.  Kindness has resonated as a theme through anti-bullying week and Children in Need.  Our Governors' noted in their visit today how kind our school is, how well the children played together and how much our children understood and cared for those with special educational needs.  I couldn't be prouder!

Have a lovely weekend.

Bushmead Book of the Week

I chose a non-fiction book this week. These often inspire more reluctant readers.

All reading counts - not just story books and this book is a wonder!

'The Wonder Garden is a beautifully illustrated book which allows its readers to 'wander through five habitats to discover eighty amazing animals.'

The book entices children and adults alike through the golden gates on the cover and into the wondrous garden that is planet Earth.  From deserts, rainforests and mountains to oceans we are met by double spread after double spread of richly illustrated landscapes and beautifully drawn creatures.'

When they were in Year 3, our Year 4 children wrote their own diary entries and some of the children's work was published in a book! Here are some of our writers with copies of 'The Incredible Diary of...' books.
