This month's value is integrity.

Our well-being theme this half-term is Connecting with Others.

6th October 2023

Dear parents & carers,

We have had a wonderful week at Bushmead. We have launched Black History Month, celebrated National Poetry Day and appreciated all our staff on World Teacher Day.  Not to mention reading, writing and arithmetic!

We celebrate diversity at our school. Fifty languages are spoken by our families according to yesterday's census.  What a wonderful experience for children to grow up with a mix of backgrounds, heritage, culture & religion. Ofsted loved our children's understanding of this and described them as having a strong sense of respect, tolerance and righting injustice. Something we as a whole community should be very proud of.

We hope for and expect the same level of respect and tolerance for all the protected areas of the Equalities Act from all of our community. Thank you.

Our school calendar has been updated, so please check dates here: CALENDAR

We have had complaints about parking at the Old Bedford Road entrance. Particularly about children crossing the road on their own from behind parked cars. Please be careful and ensure your children are crossing the road carefully.

Don't forget Friday 13th October is a non-school uniform day for Luton Food Bank. Food items (listed below) will be collected.

You will have received a parentmail and you can now book your Parent Teacher Conferences. If you have any difficulties please contact the school office on Monday.

Enjoy the sunshine this weekend.

At Bushmead, we are celebrating black history month because it is important to acknowledge their achievements in history and their past. We are doing this because we are a diverse school that respects both races and cultural differences.

On Monday, we had a whole day on black history to show appreciation. Each year group had a different black historian to learn about! Some of us even got to watch movies! Due to wanting to see who some of Bushmead's pupils thought were important, we interviewed them - who do you think is important in black history?

Here, we interviewed some polite pupils from Year 6, who all explained who and why they were inspiring to them.

Q: Which famous black historians\people inspire you?

Emily (6 Curie): “Whitney Houston inspires me because she’s an amazing singer and I love how she can sing really well; I like her vocals and music.”

Hisham (6 Curie): “Marcus Rashford ‘cause he’s a good footballer for Man United- and he supported children’s health by giving them food.”

Riyan (6 Curie): “Usain Bolt, because he is an Olympic athlete and he’s quick.”

Mr Hendrickson (PE Staff-teacher): “Michael Jackson because he’s a great singer.”

Quartalain (6 Somerville): “Rosa Parks because she helped equality.”

George (6 Somerville): “In the past, black people didn’t have as much respect as they should’ve.”

Rainbow Friends is associated with Roblox, but despite its title and some imagery is for an older audience.  Some of our younger children are talking about it.  The recommended age for this is 12+ due to the 'horror' content.  See advice here:
