This month's value is PRIDE

Our well-being theme this half-term is Connecting with Nature

10th March 2023

Dear parents & carers,

I wrote a report for our Governing Board this week. In it, I summarised what has been happening in school this term, and it made me immensely proud. Seeing how pupils have progressed and the work that our teachers and support staff do to help in their learning is quite remarkable. Not to mention the training the team deliver and receive to keep developing our skills, so we can do better for the children.

Thank you for supporting the Book Fayre. We have raised £1400 in commission which will be reinvested in books for our library. AMAZING.

It is Red Nose Day on Friday 17th March this will be non-uniform day to raise funds for this charity.  The brilliant Newsround Club has written all about it below.

Ramadan is approaching. If your child is in Yr 5 or 6, and would like to fast, please respond to the ParentMail you all should have received this week, and we will make the necessary arrangements. Many thanks.

I initially planned to do PSHE & RSHE presentations to parents at the end of this half-term, however this will clash with Ramadan. Presentations will be delayed until after Eid to ensure that all parents have availability to attend. No RSHE lessons will take place until parents have had the opportunity to review the resources taught.

The Big Walk & Wheel Week will start on the 20th March.  We are encouraging everyone to walk or wheel to school for environmental and fitness reasons, it will also help the congestion and parking outside the school.

Summer Uniform - I know we are still talking about snow but in case any of you are planning to buy summer uniform before or during the Easter Holidays, please be reminded of what to and what not to buy - please be mindful of the length of shorts, playsuits and dresses especially.  If in doubt please speak to the school office or your child's class teacher.  PE uniform - should be plain please, no logos.

Our assembly today was about kindness, this image was shown to the children, a poignant message. And something we should all be mindful of.

Kind regards,

Joanne Travi

Headteacher

Red Nose Day

Red Nose Day is back on Friday 17th March 2023!  Join thousands of people up and down the country by getting involved. Anybody with experience of the British education system will be all-too-familiar with Red Nose Day. It is a fundraising day for Comic Relief, a charity formed in 1985 by Lenny Henry and Richard Curtis.

The UK's first Red Nose Day was in 1988. Since then the telethon has raised over £1 billion. From a peak of 11 million viewers tuning into the BBC in 2003, Red Nose Day has remained a top-rated TV show although viewing figures and donations have fallen in recent years.

We will be supporting Red Nose Day with a non-uniform day at Bushmead.

Ocean Treaty

The High Seas Treaty aims to turn 30% of the seas into protected areas by 2030 to safeguard and recuperate marine nature. The agreement was reached last Saturday evening (after 38 hours of talks) at the UN headquarters, New York.  The last international agreement on ocean protection was signed over  40 years ago in 1982 - the UN convention of the law of the sea.

That agreement established an area called the High Seas - International Waters - where all countries have right to fish, ship and do research, but only 1.2% of these waters are protected. Marine life outside these protected areas have been at risk from climate change, over fishing and shipping traffic.

The new treaty will help protect our seas.
