This month's value is Appreciation

Our well-being theme this half-term is Learn Something New

19th December 2023

Dear parents & carers,

We have had a wonderful week with the Reception production, the School Council meeting at the University of Bedforshire, children visiting the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden and the choir performing at Christchurch and the retirement home. Not to mention the Staff Panto.

Children have also been working hard on their academic endeavours.  A reminder please to keep reading with your children over the holidays as homework is due on Friday 5th January!

As many of you will know, Mr Read will be leaving us today.  Mr Read has secured the headship of a school in Bristol, where he will be relocating.  This success is no surprise to those of us who work closely with Mr Read.  He is a passionate educator and his knowledge of learning is invaluable to any school. Mr Read supports new teachers and year leaders, develops training and the curriculum amongst many other jobs!  He has been a very supportive deputy head, a sounding board and presents challenge, all with the aim of achieving the best outcomes for children.

Mr Read has dedicated 17 years to Bushmead and will be greatly missed. Thank you for all you have done for the children and staff at Bushmead.  We all wish you well on your new adventure.

I am delighted to announce that Mrs Scarrott has secured the position of Deputy Head. Mrs Scarrott has been an assistant head at Bushmead for 10 years. She has completed her NPQH (headship qualification) and has a vast array of experience that qualifies her to step into the Deputy Head role.  We are excited about developing our team in 2024 and continuing to drive the school forward.

We are looking forward to our Teacher Training Day on the 3rd January where we will be covering sessions on PSHE /  Being a Cultural Champion / Mental Health & Well-being / Phonics  / Writing moderation as well as Provision Map meetings! A busy day.

Children are back to school on Thursday 4th January!

Thank you for your continued support.

I wish those of you celebrating a Merry Christmas and to all, a Happy New Year.

We have a selection of workshops for parents in the Spring term.  We are finalising the dates but do look out for ParentMails early in 2024.

Thank you to all our FOBS volunteers this term,

The Flowery Hut is not operational and just the finishing touches of new windows and painting the outside to be done.

Thank you to Mrs Shaw, Mrs Prickett and Mrs Cox for making this possible. Amazing.

A huge thank you to Dunelm in Dunstable for donating Christmas presents to our Rainbow Room!  Thank you to Mrs Hine for organising this. Our children that access the room work exceptionally hard and this treat made their day!

Community spaces

A community space is somewhere you can stay warm and get a warm drink. Some organisations will also offer additional activities or food provision.

Community spaces will be heated, safe and friendly places where you can comfortably spend time reading, studying or chatting with others.
