Weekly Newsletter

Dear parents & carers,

Another great week of learning at Bushmead, the children continue to work hard right to the end of this school term. It is wonderful to see.  We have lots of love events in the coming weeks, including Arts Week and Sports Days.

The National Education Union (NEU) has announced two more industrial action days on the 5th & 7th July.  As yet I can't confirm the impact this will have. However, we have moved our meet your new teacher day to 14th July. My understanding at the moment is that transition to Yr 7 will take place.  I will keep you informed of any changes.

Our school Values are integral to our daily life at school. It is reflected in the language we use. It would be wonderful if you could reiterate this at home. The more children here this vocabulary the more it will be a part of the way we live.

For those celebrating Eid this week we can authorise one day for religious observance.  I am aware that some may celebrate on Wednesday and others on Thursday.

Eid Al-Adha Mubarak to all those celebrating in our community.

Eid al-Adha

As a majority of you may know, Eid al-Adha is an upcoming celebration that is slowly drawing to us. Celebrated on either the 28th or 29th of June, Eid is a world-wide event that is celebrated by Muslims.

The origin of Eid al-Adha

Muslim celebrate Eid al-Adha in honour of one of their prophets (Prophet Ibrahim/Abraham) sacrificing a sheep with the intention of sacrificing his son (Ismail). Allah (God) told the Prophet to sacrifice his son as a test of loyalty to God, and once he started it, Allah replaced Ismail with a sheep to be sacrificed instead.

Interview with Ruqaya Mohammed (6 Turing):

Q: Are you excited for Eid?

A: I am extremely excited for Eid because I get to spend more time with family and friends!

Q: When are you celebrating Eid?

A: Wednesday 28th of June.

Q: How are you going to be celebrating Eid?

A: I will be meeting family members once more and eating delicious food.

Interview with Khaira Islam (6 Turing):

Q: Are you excited for Eid?

A: I am very excited for Eid because loads of presents are awaiting me.

Q: When are you celebrating Eid?

A: Wednesday 28th June.

Q: How are you going to celebrate Eid?

A: Go to my auntie’s house and stay there for the whole night.

Whether you are celebrating Eid on Wednesday or Thursday, Bushmead Primary School is hoping you have an amazing Eid.

Stress

This week’s topic for our school newsletter is stress. It is of extreme importance to understand this feeling, as it can affect someone immensely in a negative way if it is not understood and dealt with correctly.

There are three main types of stress: acute stress, episodic acute stress and chronic stress. Acute stress is stress that is experienced after a challenging event, but does not last for a long period of time (as the word ‘acute’ suggests).

Episodic acute stress is stress that one undergoes frequently. People who have episodic acute stress may feel like they are always under pressure or that things are always going to go wrong. This can be both physically and mentally tiring.

Chronic stress is stress that lasts for weeks or months. It can affect your overall health, one example being that it increases the likelihood of high blood pressure.

We have interviewed a few students on this matter.

Interview with Honor H French (6 Darwin):

Q: What are your thoughts on stress?

A: I think it could be a bad thing because you could get overly stressed and it can cause a low well-being. Your attitude can also change.

Q: How do you deal with stress?

A: I either read, listen to music or talk about it to someone. I also sometimes write about it to get all my emotions out.

Interview with Ayra A (6 Darwin):

Q: What are your thoughts on stress?

A: It isn’t a nice feeling to experience. It can be really unhealthy for our mental well-being.

Q: How do you deal with stress?

A: I either do sports or drawing.

Interview with Khadija K (5 Kepler):

Q: What are your thoughts on stress?

A: Lots of people experience it and it can be easy to have. People can get stressed by working.

Q: How do you deal with stress?

A: I play with fidget toys.

Interview with Hannah H:

Q: What are your thoughts on stress?

A: I think it’s not really comfortable for me. When I’m stressed, I feel awkward.

Q: How do you deal with stress?

A: Normally I would see my cat or I would hug my mum.
