This month's value is Forgiveness

Our well-being theme this half-term is Connecting with Nature

30th March 2023

Dear parents & carers,

Thank you to our wonderful children, families and staff for an excellent term. We are delighted with the continued hard work that the children put in to achieve so much.

Year 4 triumphed this week with their performance, A Glint of Gold. Their singing and acting was fantastic. We are super proud of the confident, articulate and courageous children we have at our school. Huge congratulations to them on their performance and a huge thank you to the amazing Yr 4 team for bringing the best out of their children!  See pictures below.....

Farewell & Welcome

Two members of staff are leaving us today and would like to take the opportunity to say a huge thank you to both for their contribution to Bushmead.

Thank you to Mr Nathan who will leave us to take up a leadership role at a middle school after over 20 years at our school, and he came to Bushmead as student too. He developed the PE and sports curriculum and led a successful team. He then became a brilliant class teacher.  Mr Nathan has made a huge impact at our school and to the children of Bushmead. We wish him the very best.

Mr Hilliard also leaves us today. He, too, has made a significant impact supporting children in their PE and sports endeavours.  Mr Hilliard is leaving us for a whole new career path. We wish him well.

We are looking forward to welcoming Mrs Gray to replace Mr Nathan.  Mrs Gray was previously a teacher at Bushmead and a Governor at our school, and is returning after a few years away.

This week we have also appointed new staff that we look forward to introducing you to in September.

Star Pupil

Myah in Yr 3 has decided she is going to continue to grow her hair and have it cut and donate it to the Little Princess Trust to be made into wigs for children who have lost their care due to cancer etc.

It’s such a wonderful thing for her to do, and we are all very proud of her. If you would like to support this charity you can do so my donating to her JUSTGIVING page.  Many thanks.

Are you smarter than Yr 6?

We have been creating 'Are you smarter than a 10/11 year old?' quizzes in Year 6.

A few have been selected a few for you to try at home.

SATs

Standard Assessment Tests - more commonly know as SATS are used to understand the current position of the Yr 6 pupils in order for teachers and pupils to be reassured that they are where there need to be before high school.

When are the SATs?

SATS occur across the whole country from the 9th May. Two weeks of revision and hard work will take place before this.  The writing assessment will take place after that.

There will be numerous fun activities to look forward to; such as a water fight in Wardown park and a delicious BBQ.

Ella said:

'I am a bit nervous because you have to do lots of revising which puts pressure on me. SATs are important and benefit you to see if you have understood Yr 6. I think mocks are important.  As well as mocks we had the option to receive Ready Set Go books to help us.'

Leyla-Ann said:

'I feel nervous partly because I don't know how well I am going to do. SATS are important because if you pass them you are more likely to pass your GCSEs. They test your understanding of year 6 and if you are ready for high school. My confidence level is in the middle as I don't know what questions will come up.  The treats at the end of the year motivate me to try harder!'
