This month's value is INDEPENDENCE

Our well-being theme this half-term is meditation & yoga.

6th January 2023

Dear parents & carers,

Happy New Year and welcome back to our Spring Term.  I hope you like our new-look newsletter.

Thank you to our whole team from readying the school for the term. The site, office, support staff and teaching teams have all done a tremendous job.

Well-being Week 16th -20th. On Blue Monday (16th) brighten up the saddest day of the year - children can wear bright and exciting clothing. Please make sure it is practical and suitable if they have PE that day.  The rest of the week will be filled with well-being activities focusing on self-care and caring for others.

Other special events this term will include Internet Safety Day, Book Week, a book fayre, Red Nose Day as well as Parent Teacher Conferences. So there is lots to look forward to.

We are aware of social media platforms that have accounts pertaining to be, or linked to, Bushmead Primary School - some even use our logo, so they look official. We are also aware of year group / parent Whatsapp groups and Facebook pages. They can be very useful reminders and sources of information.

But, please can I remind everyone that the content should always be respectful and, as per our home school agreement, be supportive of school policies. It is important that everyone understands that anything you put in writing in a group is are not as private as you may think. I have recently worked with social media legal teams to remove false, unfounded, and personal information. It is always best to go to the source If you see information such as this - please contact the school directly.

Social media should be a place to share and celebrate.  Accordingly, our school has five social media accounts. Any other accounts in our name are not ours and should be avoided.

  • A Facebook Page - Bushmead Primary School
  • A Facebook account @bushmeadprimaryluton
  • Facebook for FOBS @fobs(Friends of Bushmead School)
  • Twitter @bushmeadluton
  • Instagram @bushmeadpsluton

And of course our School Website has much of the information you should need.

I hope you have all managed to read our letter regarding our approach to homework.  We have worked hard to streamline the process for everyone and to ensure that the children benefit from this learning.  Details are here: Homework & Home Learning

We are looking forward to an exciting, busy term. Thank you in advance for your continued support. We look forward to telling you all about your child's progress in March at our PTCs.

Kind regards,

Joanne Travi

Headteacher

Online Safety and Supervision

Our children all use Internet ready devices and as they get older will undoubtedly use mobile phones.

We are frequently contacted by parents regarding exchanges on social media, and we have seen children make serious mistakes when posting on tiktok, snapchat and other sites.

Please make sure you understand the age restrictions or sites your children may use (for example Whatsapp is 16+) and why they are there to protect children. If you do allow your child to use social media, games or communication tools, please check and monitor what your children are doing and saying online.  Please refer to our website for further information:

https://www.bushmeadprimaryschool.co.uk/page/?title=Online+Safety&pid=129

If you have a serious concern you can report online activity here:

https://www.ceop.police.uk/Safety-Centre/

We teach online safety at school, but we can't read through children's Whatsapp messages. You can.
