At Bushmead, we are celebrating black history month because it is important to acknowledge their achievements in history and their past. We are doing this because we are a diverse school that respects both races and cultural differences.
On Monday, we had a whole day on black history to show appreciation. Each year group had a different black historian to learn about! Some of us even got to watch movies! Due to wanting to see who some of Bushmead's pupils thought were important, we interviewed them - who do you think is important in black history?
Here, we interviewed some polite pupils from Year 6, who all explained who and why they were inspiring to them.
Q: Which famous black historians\people inspire you?
Emily (6 Curie): “Whitney Houston inspires me because she’s an amazing singer and I love how she can sing really well; I like her vocals and music.”
Hisham (6 Curie): “Marcus Rashford ‘cause he’s a good footballer for Man United- and he supported children’s health by giving them food.”
Riyan (6 Curie): “Usain Bolt, because he is an Olympic athlete and he’s quick.”
Mr Hendrickson (PE Staff-teacher): “Michael Jackson because he’s a great singer.”
Quartalain (6 Somerville): “Rosa Parks because she helped equality.”
George (6 Somerville): “In the past, black people didn’t have as much respect as they should’ve.”
